The late, great Tony Bennett left his mark on San Francisco — mostly recently in the form of a Bennett-branded cable car, unveiled by SFMTA this past February. That car inspired our new “Tony Bennett Tour” of San Francisco, which maps a route through the places Bennett spent his time in the city.
I ran into some head-smacking “Duh!” moments while writing this article. Like, did you know that the heart sculptures scattered around San Francisco were inspired by “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”? I know, I know. How obvious! Putting it all together, Bennett’s exploits in SF actually shake out to be a decent history of the city over the past 60 years. And following in his footsteps can take you through some of San Francisco’s most beautiful stops. Thank you, Tony!
